*** A school counselor has to hold a Master's Degree and is required by state law to maintain certification via on-going professional development courses. Counselors must also stay current with education reform and challenges facing students. As outlined by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), school counselors collaborate with parents, school staff, and the community to help ALL children achieve academic success. They provide education, prevention, and early intervention through a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program.
